Wakulla County Florida Paddle Trails
Sopchoppy River Canoe Trail
|
|
Officially designated as part of Florida's Statewide System of
Greenways and Trails, the 15.0 mile long Sopchoppy River Canoe Trail has heavily
wooded banks and an abundance of wildlife. The upper section shows little
evidence of civilization while the lower section has many homes. The upper
section has many twists and bends around clumps of cypress knees, but the river
widens and the terrain flattens as you near US319. The water level fluctuates
rapidly after heavy rains.
Some of the access points include:
|
|
-
Oak Park Cemetery Bridge; Travel north on NFS365 from
Sopchoppy to NFS346 and turn left (west) to bridge.
-
Mt. Besser Church Bridge; NFS 343, 2 miles northwest of
Sopchoppy
-
CR375 Bridge in Sopchoppy
-
US319 Bridge, 3 miles south of Sopchoppy
