Glynn County Georgia Beaches

Driftwood Beach

Located on the north end of Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach shows the wondrous and brutal erosion of one of Georgia's barrier islands. As the north end of the island slowly erodes away live oak and pines are left creating a haunting cemetery of gnarled, gorgeous trees and driftwood. A popular location for weddings and photographers, driftwood beach is a beautiful place to behold.

Stretching from Villas by the Sea Resort to Clam Creek Picnic Area, Driftwood Beach offers several access points.

A fairly large parking area is available at the Pier (Clam Creek Picnic Area). From the parking area follow the sighs for the Wildlife Viewing Area, crossing over the bridge at Clam Creek (a popular area for fishing and crabbing) and onto the sand of the beach. From the beginning you will see lots of driftwood, but keep walking. You may even find a short stretch of sand where it appears the driftwood is ending, it's not. Continue on and suddenly you will find the main graveyard of driftwood. The driftwood continues on until you see the beach access steps of Villas by the Sea Resort.

Another option is to stop at one of the beach access points along North Beachview Drive between Villas by the Sea and the turn-off for the Pier. Each of these pull-offs offer a limited amount of parking and provide a short trail to the beach. These access points along North Beachview Drive place you right in the middle of the larges sections of driftwood covered beach.

Some portions of the beach between the Pier and Villas may become inaccessible during high tides as well as making many pieces of driftwood only visible from a short distance as the water covers the bottom of the driftwood.
