Attakapas
Wildlife Management Area
Accessible only by boat, the 27,962 acre Attakapas
Wildlife Management Area received wide scale destruction to the trees
during Hurricane Andrew (1992). As a result of this damage, the Louisiana
Department of Wildlife & Fisheries reforested many of the higher areas
along the Atchafalaya River. About 30 miles of trails have been created
and maintained around these reforested plots on the east & west sides
of the Atchafalaya River.
Attakapas WMA is located northern St. Mary Parish. |
