Pamlico County North Carolina Paddle Trails

Maw Point Kayak Trail

18.0 Miles
Difficult

Begin Maw Point Kayak Trail at the Riggs Creek access site on SR1324 in Florence and paddle out of Riggs creek and cross Bonner Bay to Davis Island Point. Be aware this crossing may be rough in northerly winds. Continue north, and turn east along the shore past Bryant Point. Looking north across the Bay River, you can see the entrance of the Intracoastal Waterway near Hobucken. Paddle east past Sheeppen Creek and Hogpen Creek to Pine Tree Point.

The southerly paddle from here is exposed to large waves from the side if the wind is brisk from the east. Paddle SE past Yaupon Creek and Deep Point to Maw Point. Continue south-southwest past Maw Bay and Wading Creek, which is completely blocked by a large sand bar.

From Swan Island, continue south to Piney Point, turning west paddle into Broad Creek and explore the many beautiful tributaries, particularly Green Creek , Paris Creek (south of red marker "4"), Tar Creek, Brown Creek, and the headwaters of Broad Creek. Take-out is in Coffee Creek in Whortonsville at the ramp behind Slade's Grocery. Please stop in the store to pay the modest landing fee.
