Washington Birthplace National Monument
Although the home in which George Washington was born burned in
1779, it was excavated in 1936 which recovered and preserved the foundation. In
1931 a reconstruction of the home was completed. This Memorial House &
Colonial Kitchen successfully depict the culture and social standing of the
Washington's during George Washington's youth. The home and kitchen are fully
furnished with over 1,000 museum pieces from the Colonial era.
